Payment application for the terminal in an EV charging station
An Android application that runs directly inside the NEXGO payment terminal built into a charging station. The terminal itself walks the driver through the whole charging payment, from pre-authorisation to capture via Comgate, and the station no longer needs an extra display.

The brief
Paying by card at a charging station meant a payment terminal plus a separate external display the station used to talk to the driver. Every station had one more device, more cabling and more places where something could fail. The operator wanted the terminal to handle the entire payment on its own.
The solution
I wrote the application for Android directly into the NEXGO payment terminal. The terminal now both accepts the card and shows the driver everything needed for the payment, so the external display is gone.
The application drives the whole payment flow: before charging it holds an amount on the card (pre-authorisation), after charging it captures the actual price and releases the rest. Payments are processed by the Comgate payment gateway.
Besides the terminal version, the application also runs as a desktop simulator. The payment flow can be tried and debugged without a physical station, which speeds up both development and testing of new versions.
